Oil Prices Plummet Amid Eased Supply Concerns
Oil prices took a 1% hit on Thursday, October 1, as concerns about supply eased following the resumption of oil exports from Persian Gulf countries and an unexpected increase in US inventories. Brent crude futures fell to $96.92 per barrel by 04:20 GMT, while WTI crude dropped to $89.18 per barrel.
The price drop came despite a recent surge in oil prices, with Brent rising by approximately 14% in September and WTI increasing by around 5%. However, experts warn that the short-term outlook for oil prices remains negative due to the restoration of supplies from the Persian Gulf region and the buildup of US inventories.
Sugandha Sachdeva, founder of SS WealthStreet, noted that the resumption of diplomatic engagement between the US and Iran could further reduce the geopolitical risk premium, although a breakthrough remains uncertain. Meanwhile, OPEC+ countries are likely to keep their oil production targets unchanged for November when they meet on Sunday.
