Oil Prices Plummet Amid Easing Middle East Tensions
World oil prices have fallen sharply due to easing concerns about supply disruptions from the Middle East. The decline was triggered by positive signals from negotiations and improved shipping conditions through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has recovered significantly, with an average of nearly 19 vessels on August 3rd. This comes after government officials from all parties involved issued statements aimed at easing tensions in the region.
The prices of both Brent and WTI crude oil fell below the $80/barrel mark, with Brent crude oil decreasing by 5.2% to $79.36/barrel, while WTI crude oil fell by 5.7% to $75.8/barrel. The market is now focusing on the US commercial crude oil inventory data to be released today by the US Energy Information Agency (EIA), which is predicted to decrease by approximately 1.5-2 million barrels in the last week of July.
