Oil Prices Plummet Amid Hopes for Strait of Hormuz Reopening
Crude oil prices declined by over 4% on Tuesday, reaching just over $75 a barrel, as markets reacted to fresh signals of progress in efforts to restore commercial shipping through the critical Middle East chokepoint.
The developments came after U.S.-Iran talks showed signs of progress, raising hopes for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway that accounts for approximately 20% of global oil exports.
The price drop was seen across various oil-related assets, including crude oil futures (CL1:COM), the United States Oil Fund LP ETF (USO), and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE).
