Oil Prices Plummet as Iran-Oman Deal Raises Hopes for Strait of Hormuz Traffic
Oil prices have taken a hit as Iran and Oman reach an agreement on a proposed shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz. The deal, which is set to last two to four months, raises hopes for increased energy flows resuming through this vital waterway.
Brent crude is trading near $79 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) hovered around $75 after experiencing an 11% drop during the first three trading sessions of the week. US crude stockpiles have rebounded from their lowest levels since 2018, with inventories at Cushing, Oklahoma, rising above the 20 million barrels threshold.
Despite the optimism surrounding a potential agreement to restore traffic through the waterway, uncertainties persist. Iranian officials clarified that this agreement does not signify a complete reopening of the route, and traders have been hesitant to fully liquidate long positions.
