Oil Prices Plummet as Tensions Ease in West Asia
Oil prices plummeted on Wednesday, September 23, marking six consecutive days of declines. Brent crude dropped to around $99 a barrel, putting it on course for its longest losing streak in a year. The benchmark's decline is now over 9%, its worst performance since August 2025.
The recent slide in oil prices follows Saudi Arabia's announcement that it will restart oil flows through its East-West pipeline within days. This bypass route around the Strait of Hormuz had been knocked offline by attacks earlier this month, disrupting global crude supply.
US President Donald Trump's remarks on the meeting between US and Iranian envoys also contributed to the bullish sentiment in markets. He described the talks as 'very productive' and confirmed further discussions are scheduled.
