Oil Prices Plummet as US-Iran War Hostilities Pause
The recent US-Israel-Iran war has seen a significant drop in oil prices following a pause in military hostilities between the two nations. Brent crude oil prices dropped 2.2% to $84.03 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate fell 1.7% to $81.20 a barrel.
The US and Iran's decision to halt their military strikes has provided some relief to energy markets, which had been heavily influenced by the conflict. The pause in hostilities has given diplomatic efforts a chance to breathe, with negotiations underway to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical trade route that has been impacted by the war.
The US dollar has strengthened against the Japanese yen, rising to 163.82, which could put additional pressure on commodities. Traders are also factoring in broader inflation risks, with a 36% probability of a future Federal Reserve interest rate hike.
