Oil Prices Plummet on Strait of Hormuz Reopening Reports
Oil prices plummeted by over 4% after reports emerged that the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil passage, may reopen. This development has sparked a wave of selling as traders unwind risk premiums built on fears of supply disruptions.
The Strait of Hormuz is responsible for roughly 20 million barrels per day, about a fifth of global consumption, flowing through it. Any disruption or perceived threat to this route typically sends prices soaring, but the current momentum suggests that the market is pricing in a de-escalation of tensions.
Silver prices jumped over 3% to reach a multi-year high, driven by a combination of safe-haven buying and strong industrial demand. Unlike gold, which has also rallied, silver has a dual role as both a precious metal and an industrial commodity, making it sensitive to shifts in manufacturing activity and green energy investments.
