Oil Prices Plunge, Stocks Rebound Amid Ongoing Inflation Concerns
US stocks rebounded on Friday as oil prices declined, offering some relief to investors who had been concerned about the impact of high energy costs on inflation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 1.02%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite advanced 1.05% and 1.22%, respectively.
The decline in oil prices, which saw Brent crude futures fall around 3% to trade above $104 a barrel, helped ease some pressure on markets. However, inflation remained a major concern as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.4% in August, matching July's annual increase of 3.4%.
Technology and communication stocks led the broader market gains, with Dell Technologies jumping over 11% to a record high after strong quarterly results from Oracle. ACV Auctions shares surged 44% following an agreement by Copart to acquire it in a deal valued at nearly $1.9 billion.
