Oil prices pulled back on September 23, following a surge of almost 4% on Wednesday. The market had been reacting to renewed tensions between the US and Iran.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News that major volumes of crude are getting through the Strait of Hormuz despite risks to shipping. He said 'sometimes' 17 million barrels transit the strait per day via Bloomberg Terminal.

However, other market watchers have flagged lower figures. Clarksons Research put the daily volume at about 8 million barrels per day via Bloomberg Terminal earlier this month.
