Oil Prices Reverse on Saudi Supply Headlines
Saudi Arabia's oil loadings from the port of Yanbu resumed, contributing to a sharp intraday reversal in Brent Oil prices. The front-month prices dropped despite longer-dated contracts grinding higher. Spot Brent fell while December 2027 futures reached new highs, indicating markets still price prolonged disruption despite near-term relief.
The initial rise in Brent crude to $107/bbl at the European open was short-lived as several headlines weighed on spot Brent. A Reuters report on Saudi Arabia's oil loadings and a final US Strategic Petroleum Reserve release contributed to the pullback. However, longer-dated Brent futures continued to move up, with December 2027 futures increasing by +0.65% yesterday, reaching $80.81/bbl.
Investors struggled to get excited despite the pullback in oil and gas prices. The lack of progress towards a deal and increased oil flows out of the Gulf eased near-term pressure but still priced in a lengthier period of disruption.
