Oil Prices Rise Amid Stalled Iran Talks
Brent crude futures (OIL) are regaining momentum after a contract rollover, inching closer to the $100 per barrel mark. The uptrend comes despite ongoing U.S., Iran talks remaining at an impasse.
Tehran presented a list of demands in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, including a massive compensation package reportedly valued at $300 billion. This proposal was directly rejected by the United States, according to U.S. officials cited by Yonhap.
The Iranian delegation sought not only financial compensation but also the full lifting of U.S. sanctions and the release of $100 billion in frozen assets. Additionally, they demanded an end to the U.S. naval blockade and withdrawal of U.S. troops from the region, as well as a regional ceasefire covering areas such as Lebanon and Gaza.
These stringent conditions suggest that the gap between Washington and Tehran remains substantial, particularly regarding sanctions, military presence, and the terms for restoring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
