Oil Prices Set to Rise as US Reserve Faces Operational Challenges
Hedge fund manager Jeffrey Baird of Merritt Point Partners expects oil prices to rise as the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve faces operational challenges and limited capacity. The reserve has been releasing nearly 25 million barrels per month, leaving only a month's worth above its congressionally mandated limit.
Baird also notes that China's reduced oil purchases from the Middle East have helped moderate prices. However, he warns that this trend may reverse if the situation in the region persists indefinitely.
The market is still cautious due to potential blockades and refinery disruptions. Despite these risks, Baird remains optimistic, citing past experiences where markets adapt to new realities.
