Crude oil prices declined on Friday following reports that Iran and Oman had resumed discussions on jointly managing the Strait of Hormuz.

The talks, according to Reuters, were focused on establishing a temporary navigational corridor and removing mines from the strait.

Despite these developments, market participants seemed to disregard the latest U.S. sanctions on Iran, which aimed to further restrict its oil exports.

Analysts at ING noted that a statement from Pakistan indicating progress in peace talks also contributed to the downward pressure on oil prices.
