Oil Prices Slide on Diplomatic Hopes Amid US-Iran Talks
Oil prices experienced a modest decline on Friday as diplomatic talks between the US and Iran progressed in New York. Brent crude dropped by $0.74 to $105.85 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) fell by $0.81 to $93.80 per barrel.
The price drop was influenced by the possibility of a truce between the two nations, with traders weighing competing factors. US and Iranian negotiators are reportedly exploring a phased path towards ending hostilities, which includes Tehran resuming operations at the Strait of Hormuz and Washington lifting economic sanctions on Iran.
Tim Waterer, chief analyst at KCM Trade, stated that 'diplomatic hopes are essentially helping oil prices hold up against the recent wave of military strikes across the Middle East.'
