Oil Prices Slide on Diplomatic Hopes and Saudi Export Recovery
Oil prices have reached an 11-day low on hopes of diplomatic progress between the US and Iran ahead of this week's UN meeting, as well as a partial recovery in Saudi Arabian exports. Brent crude futures dipped to $101.18 per barrel, down 2.6%, while West Texas Intermediate crude fell to $97.61 per barrel, a decline of 2.7%. These prices are the lowest since September 10.
Despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia has increased exports through the Strait of Hormuz, shipping an average of 2.9 million barrels per day over the past six days, up from 700,000 bpd in August. This development is seen as a positive sign for oil flows, despite disruptions to Saudi's East-West pipeline.
The situation remains volatile, with Iran and the US exchanging new threats on Sunday. However, President Donald Trump has expressed openness to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during his visit to New York this week. Meanwhile, Libya's Sharara oilfield has seen a partial reduction in production, without any clear reason given.
