Oil Prices Soar Amid Iran Tensions, Sinking US Stocks
Global markets were in disarray on Wednesday as investors reacted to two major events. Oil prices skyrocketed by 7.3% after a brief conflict with Iran, pushing Brent crude above $88 per barrel.
The surge in oil prices had the opposite effect on Wall Street, however, where US stocks suffered a significant decline. The S&P 500 fell 1.5%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average pulled back by 2.2% and the Nasdaq composite lost 1.7%.
Technology stocks were particularly hard hit, with recent AI winners such as Nvidia, Micron Technology, and AMD experiencing significant drops. This weighed heavily on the overall market, contributing to the decline in US stocks.
