Oil Prices Soar as Iran Dashes Hopes for US Peace Deal
Oil prices surged to their highest level in over three weeks after Iran announced it would maintain its aggressive stance and keep the Strait of Hormuz closed. The news effectively dashed hopes for a US-Iran peace deal, contributing to higher crude oil prices.
The Brent crude futures finished up 15 cents at $91.02 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose by 44 cents to $84.94 a barrel, both reaching their highest levels since July 24.
Despite the gains, commodities analyst Darrell Fletcher noted that 'the market has muted movement to the daily headlines just due to the amount of noise since June with no real results.'
