Oil Prices Soar on Middle East Tensions; Gold Falls to Seven-Week Low
Commodity markets were mixed on September 29 as oil prices rose for a second straight session, while gold fell further amidst ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
The Brent crude futures had risen by $0.63, or 0.6%, to $105.91 a barrel, and US West Texas Intermediate crude was at $93.32, up $0.72, or 0.8%. The price increase comes despite signs of recovering crude exports from the region.
Gold prices continued their decline, trading around $4,120 an ounce after falling 4% on Monday to a seven-week low. Silver was little changed at $60.64 an ounce, while platinum edged lower and palladium rose by 0.2%.
