Oil Prices Surge Above $100 as US Faces Fuel Cost and Inflation Pressures
Oil prices have surged above $100 per barrel, pushing fuel costs and inflationary pressures in the US. Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and supply disruptions originating from Saudi Arabia contributed to this increase.
The rise in oil prices has led to higher transportation and production costs, which are translating into broader price pressures. The national average price of gasoline rose to $4.44 per gallon as of September 17, up 38.7% from the same period last year.
The US Federal Reserve's monetary policy is also affected by high oil prices. Although the Fed raised its policy rate by 25 basis points to a range of 3.75%-4%, higher borrowing costs are constraining economic activity and strengthening the dollar against other currencies.
