Oil Prices Surge Amid Middle East Tensions
Crude oil prices surged on Wednesday, settling at their highest in nearly four weeks amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. Brent crude futures rose by $0.60 (0.7%) to settle at $91.62 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures increased by $0.89 (1.1%) to settle at $85.83 a barrel.
The prices closed at their highest since July 24, supported by ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region. The UAE's decision to suspend all financial and economic transactions with Iran has added to the uncertainty, with ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remaining slow.
Dennis Kissler, senior vice president of trading at BOK Financial, noted that crude futures remain supported by the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. He pointed out that Brent's move above $91 a barrel suggests traders are pricing in a higher risk premium, with prices potentially returning to three-digit levels.
