The global oil market experienced a significant surge on August 31st as tensions in the Middle East continued to rise. The WTI (West Texas Intermediate) oil price increased by 1.26 USD/barrel, reaching 84.66 USD/barrel, while Brent oil rose by 1.26 USD/barrel to 89.54 USD/barrel. This represents a 1.51% and 1.43% increase, respectively.

The increase in oil prices can be attributed to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, particularly with regards to the Strait of Hormuz. The US attack on Iranian launchers on Larak Island has raised concerns about potential disruptions to oil supplies through this critical maritime route.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are underway to promote the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran is reportedly building a list of conditions for reopening the strait, including an end to the conflict in the region and resolution of issues related to sanctions.

In Vietnam, Petrolimex announced a price list for domestic retail gasoline and oil prices on August 31st. The prices are as follows: E10 RON 95-III gasoline is 1,200 VND/liter, E15 RON 92-II gasoline is 1,200 VND/liter, and diesel oil 0.05S - II is 1,800 VND/liter.

A representative of a gasoline and oil business predicts that retail prices may decrease in the next price adjustment period. Specifically, E10 gasoline may be reduced by about 0-50 VND/liter, E5 RON 92-II gasoline may be reduced by about 0-50 VND/liter, and diesel oil decreased by about 1,500 VND/liter.
