Oil Prices Surge Amid Stalled Peace Talks and Rate Hike Expectations
Oil prices are on the rise again, with US crude and Brent futures experiencing significant increases. The US-Iran peace talks have stalled, adding to the upward pressure on oil prices. As a result, US crude has climbed 2.2% to $91.33 a barrel, while Brent November futures have jumped 1% to $103.71.
The price spike comes as fuel markets in the US are tightening, exacerbating the upward trend in oil prices. This is particularly concerning for investors and traders, who are watching the situation closely. Giovanni Staunovo, an analyst at UBS, attributed gold's recent weakness to higher oil prices and increased expectations of further US rate hikes.
Gold has been under pressure this month due to expectations of another rise in US interest rates, which makes it less attractive as an investment option. The dollar is also expected to gain value, making gold more expensive for holders of other currencies. Jamie Dutta, a market analyst at Nemo.money, noted that gold is highly sensitive to expectations around Fed hikes and statements from officials.
