Oil Prices Surge Amid Tanker Attacks and Stalled US-Iran Peace Talks
Oil prices surged on Friday due to tanker attacks and stalled peace talks between the US and Iran. According to the Al Attiyah Foundation's Weekly Energy Market Review, Brent crude futures settled at $88.52 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude finished at $82.40 a barrel.
The price increase was driven by two vessels from the state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company being attacked while transiting the Strait on Thursday. The UAE government condemned the incident as an Iranian attack.
The US administration said it could maintain a naval blockade of Iran indefinitely and increase economic pressure on Tehran in response to stalled ceasefire talks. This move has increased tensions in the region, contributing to the rise in oil prices.
