Oil Prices Surge as US-Iran Stalemate Continues
The price of oil rose on Tuesday as negotiations between the United States and Iran over a peace deal and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz stalled. Brent crude futures increased to $88.09 per barrel, while US crude futures reached $82.52, both reaching their highest levels since July 31.
Tony Sycamore, an analyst at IG, described the situation as a 'Mexican standoff' between the two nations, with neither side willing to back down. He predicted that oil prices could remain in the range of $75 to $95 per barrel while the stalemate continues.
The latest increase in fuel costs may impact the US July consumer price report due on Wednesday, which is expected to show a 0.1% monthly rise in the headline reading and 0.2% for the core measure.
