Oil Prices Surge on Hormuz Tensions and Houthi Strike
Oil prices surged on August 10 as concerns over crude supply disruptions intensified. The uncertainty surrounding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil trade, contributed to the price increase.
The WTI crude (USOIL) rose by 3.49% to $80.91, while Brent crude (UKOIL) increased over 3% to $86.75.
Iran's Supreme Leader's political advisor, Zolghadr, stated that the U.S. must lift the naval blockade on Iranian ports and withdraw military forces deployed around Iran for the strait to reopen. Iran also demanded compensation for war damages, unfrozen assets, and an end to U.S. sanctions.
U.S. President Donald Trump said the U.S. is observing developments through a 'low-key' approach, believing that Iran's economic pressures could lead it to soften its stance.
