Oil surges as Houthis strike Saudi Aramco facilities
Oil prices rose on Monday following an attack by Yemen's Houthis on key Saudi Aramco facilities. The Iran-backed group claimed responsibility for launching ballistic missiles and drones at sites in Riyadh and the Khurais area, sparking concerns over potential disruptions to oil production in the region.
In response, Brent crude futures climbed by 81 cents, or 0.79%, reaching $103.06 a barrel by 2202 GMT. Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate crude gained 46 cents, or 0.50%, to $91.57 a barrel. The market reaction underscored the sensitivity of oil prices to geopolitical risks, particularly in a major exporting region like the Middle East.
