Oil Windfall: Nigeria Earns $17.8 Billion as Crude Prices Soar
Nigeria's crude oil exports have surged in the second quarter of 2026, earning the country N12.91 trillion, representing 47.79% of total exports.
The increase is attributed to high global oil prices, which have risen above $100 per barrel due to tensions in the Gulf region. Brent crude currently trades at well above Nigeria's federal budget benchmark of $64.85.
Analysts predict that if tensions escalate into a full-scale conflict, Brent prices could rise beyond $100 per barrel, further strengthening Nigeria's fiscal revenues and foreign exchange reserves.
Nigeria's National Bureau of Statistics reports that crude oil remained the largest single export commodity in Q2 2026. The country's total merchandise trade rose to N41.44 trillion in the second quarter, a 5.61% increase from the same period in 2025.
