Oklahoma Wheat Producers Face Global Competition and Tight Margins
Oklahoma wheat producers are facing tough marketing decisions amidst tight margins and global export competition. The USDA's Small Grains Summary and Quarterly Grain Stocks report revealed that final production numbers for wheat were in line with industry projections, but domestic usage came in slightly stronger than expected.
However, the larger market disruption was caused by corn inventory adjustments, which pushed up ending stocks into the next year. This has made it challenging for U.S. export values to remain competitive on the world stage, particularly against aggressive export flows from Russia and Ukraine.
Cash bids for HRW wheat continue to struggle despite a tighter domestic crop. Hubbs noted that international purchases have largely been limited to Mexico and Japan, while white wheat exports have performed well.
