Oman has presented a proposal to Iran for a joint regional mechanism to manage the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for almost 20% of the global energy supply. According to a Gulf source, the Omani proposal involves voluntary fees, similar to those used in the Strait of Malacca. This means that those who use the strait would contribute to fund navigation, environmental protection, search and rescue efforts.

The proposal aims to prevent Iran from exercising sole control over the Strait of Hormuz. Market reaction has been slight selling pressure on WTI Oil prices, with the price trading 1.1% lower at near $80.30 at press time.
