ONGC Expands Gas Infrastructure in Assam's Golaghat District
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has marked a significant milestone in expanding Assam's gas infrastructure by commissioning gas evacuation facilities at its Khoraghat Group Gathering Station-1 (GGS-1) in Golaghat district.
The facility, which comes soon after the Dergaon, Dimapur Pipeline was brought online, will allow surplus associated natural gas from ONGC's Upper Assam Shelf to be processed and channelled into the North East Gas Grid (NEGG), developed by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL).
The commissioning of Khoraghat GGS-1 is part of a broader push to make full use of associated gas produced alongside crude oil in upper Assam fields, with officials noting that nearly 1 lakh Standard Cubic Metres (SCM) of gas per day from ONGC's Jorhat asset can be effectively utilised instead of being flared or wasted.
With the expanded pipeline network, households will benefit through piped natural gas connections, while industrial units will have a reliable fuel source. The move is also expected to boost growth in gas-based transport and strengthen power generation capacity.
