Ontario Crop Prices Firm Ahead of Harvest
Cash-crop farmers in Ontario have reason to be optimistic about market prices ahead of harvest season, according to experts at Canada's Outdoor Farm Show. While prices may not continue to rise without interruption, recent strength is expected to persist for now.
The Ontario cash price for corn has made a sharp turnaround from its early summer break, rebounding strongly in July and August after shifting U.S. production expectations helped fuel the rally. The 2026-crop Ontario price weakened through June before reversing course.
Soybean prices have also followed a positive trend, with Ontario 2026-crop bids turning higher last winter and advancing through the spring despite summer volatility. The warm, wet August favored crop development, but some disease pressure is evident in wet areas.
Wheat prices are strengthening ahead of fall harvest, driven by uncertainty surrounding Black Sea grain exports due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Ontario 2027-crop soft red winter wheat bids have also advanced from their June lows.
