OPEC+ Group Agrees to Steady Oil Production Amid Rising Prices
Seven major oil-exporting countries have agreed to keep their production levels steady in November. The OPEC+ subgroup, which includes Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman, made this decision at a meeting on Sunday.
The decision comes as the price of benchmark Brent crude oil has risen above $100 a barrel due to the ongoing conflict with Iran. The fighting began with US and Israeli attacks on February 28 and has disrupted global oil supplies, driving prices higher.
As part of their efforts to stabilize the market, the G7 announced that they plan to release 100 million barrels of oil and fuel products in the coming weeks. This will include 'substantial' amounts of diesel, which recently hit record highs in the US, affecting farmers, truckers, and consumers who rely on the fuel.
The G7 has promised a 'frontloaded substantial release' of diesel within 20 days, followed by the rest over four months.
