OPEC+ Maintains Oil Production Levels Amid Global Market Uncertainty
The OPEC+ cartel has maintained its current oil production levels for October, sticking to its status quo after reviewing global market conditions at a recent meeting. The seven member countries - Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman - plan to draw up a new agreement on quotas before deciding on their next output targets.
The OPEC+ countries had previously announced additional voluntary adjustments in April and November 2023. They reiterated their collective commitment to achieve full conformity with the Declaration of Cooperation, which includes holding monthly meetings to review market conditions.
However, despite increasing production quotas by around 188,000 barrels per day from September, the decision has limited impact on global oil supplies due to ongoing Middle East conflicts disrupting exports through the Strait of Hormuz. Russia's oil industry is also under pressure following repeated Ukrainian drone attacks, with its current production at 9 million barrels per day, below its OPEC+ target of about 9.8 million barrels per day.
