OPEC+ Maintains Status Quo on Oil Production Amid Global Disruptions
The OPEC+ cartel has decided to maintain its current oil production levels for October, according to a recent meeting held on Sunday. The seven member countries - Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman - agreed to continue their monthly meetings to review market conditions.
The decision to stick with the status quo was made despite the cartel's previous announcement of additional voluntary adjustments in April and November 2023. However, these extra cuts will not automatically lead to more oil reaching global buyers due to ongoing disruptions in the Middle East caused by conflicts.
Russia is facing pressure on its oil industry after Ukrainian drone attacks hit deep into Russian territory, affecting its production levels. Currently, Russia's output stands at around 9 million barrels per day, below its OPEC+ target of about 9.8 million barrels per day.
