OPEC+ Sticks to Production Quotas Amid Ongoing Iran War Disruptions
OPEC+ has agreed to keep oil production quotas unchanged in November due to ongoing disruptions from the Iran war. The seven-member subgroup led by Saudi Arabia and Russia will follow their existing production roadmap, with no further quota increases planned through the end of 2026. This decision is largely symbolic, as actual market supply remains limited due to the conflict.
The Iran war has significantly reduced output from major OPEC producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Kuwait. The move comes as crude prices push back toward $100 a barrel, with diesel prices hitting records. The Group of Seven coordinated an emergency stock release in response to the supply shock, releasing 100 million barrels of crude oil and petroleum products.
The OPEC+ decision follows President Donald Trump's announcement that the U.S. will not impose a proposed diesel export ban. The ban was floated as European fuel supplies came under pressure from Gulf production disruptions. The G7 committed to avoiding energy export restrictions between member nations, urging other oil-producing countries to do the same.
