OPEC+ Subgroup Maintains Production Levels Amid Iran Hostilities
Major oil exporters have agreed to maintain production levels in November as global oil prices continue to rise. The OPEC+ subgroup, comprising Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman, made this decision at a meeting held on Sunday.
The move comes amid ongoing hostilities with Iran, which began on February 28, disrupting global oil supplies and driving up prices. Benchmark Brent crude oil has surpassed $100 per barrel as a result of these disruptions.
Meanwhile, the Group of Seven (G7) wealthy democracies announced plans to release 100 million barrels of oil and fuel products in the coming weeks, starting with 'substantial' amounts of diesel. Diesel prices have reached record highs in the US, affecting farmers, truckers, and consumers who rely on this fuel.
The G7 has promised a 'frontloaded substantial release' of diesel within 20 days, followed by releases over four months.
