POLISH FUEL GROUP ORLEN and the Port of Gdynia Authority have teamed up to investigate the feasibility of offering LNG and bioLNG refuelling services at the Baltic harbour. The collaboration aims to gauge customer appetite for these alternative marine fuels, along with evaluating necessary infrastructure, working conditions, and legal prerequisites.

The project involves studying refuelling from the water side, particularly operations where a dedicated bunker tanker delivers fuel directly to a docked vessel. They will examine whether such a setup could accommodate bigger ships and whether refuelling might occur while vessels are berthed.

ORLEN views gas, including LNG, as a bridge fuel within its overarching strategy and is building expertise in supply, logistics, infrastructure, and consumption. The company aims to ready its facilities for evolving vessel demands as the maritime industry transitions toward a wider spectrum of energy sources.
