Orlen and Naftogaz Deepen Energy Ties with LNG and Petroleum Product Supplies
Polish energy company Orlen and Ukraine's state-owned Naftogaz Group have strengthened their cooperation in the energy sector. The two companies signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to explore the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and petroleum products, diversify supply routes, and support stability of energy supplies in Ukraine and Central Europe.
The first MoU enables Orlen and Naftogaz to explore the potential supply of three LNG cargoes in the first quarter of 2027. This move is part of Orlen's efforts to develop its LNG trading activities and strengthen its role as a reliable supplier in regional markets.
Ireneusz Fąfara, Orlen's CEO, commented that cooperation with Ukraine is an important part of ORLEN's commitment to energy security in Central and Eastern Europe. He emphasized the benefits of strengthening their partnership with Naftogaz in diversifying supplies and improving the resilience of the region's energy system.
The second MoU focuses on potential cooperation between Orlen and Ukrnafta, part of Naftogaz Group, regarding petroleum product supplies to the Ukrainian market. The companies may explore the possibility of supplying Ukrainian crude oil for processing at refineries in Central Europe and transferring used fuel tanker trucks to Ukrnafta.
Sergii Fedorenko, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Naftogaz of Ukraine, highlighted the importance of Orlen as a strategic partner. He emphasized that reliable sources of gas supply and diversified delivery routes are particularly crucial amid ongoing Russian attacks on domestic production facilities.
