Pacific Link Pipeline Designated as National Interest in Canada
A significant step forward has been taken in the development of a pipeline to transport Alberta oil to tankers on the B.C. coast.
The project, dubbed Pacific Link, has been designated as a national interest under the Building Canada Act, streamlining regulations and timelines for its construction.
Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced the designation in Fort McMurray, with the goal of completing consultations, environmental safeguards, financing, and Indigenous partnerships by September 1, 2027.
The pipeline is estimated to cost between $35 billion and $44 billion, with Trans Mountain Corp. and the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission splitting the costs.
