Pacific Link Pipeline Project Designated National Interest
Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced that the Pacific Link pipeline project has been designated as a project of national interest.
The pipeline, which will run from Bruderheim northeast of Edmonton to southern British Columbia, is forecast to carry one million barrels per day of crude oil and develop a new delivery terminal and marine facility to export oil to global markets.
Smith called the announcement 'a significant victory' that will lead to thousands of new jobs and an estimated $265 million in royalty revenue for the Alberta government over the next half-century.
A review process with a targeted completion date of September 1, 2027, is set to begin involving the federal major projects office and the Canada Energy Regulator after which construction could begin.
