Pakistan and Türkiye to Deploy Forces in Saudi Arabia Amid Houthi Threats
In response to escalating threats from Yemen's Houthi group, Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to deploy military forces and capabilities in Saudi Arabia. This decision follows an emergency meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee of the Mecca Alliance in Riyadh on October 5, 2026. The three countries strongly condemned recent attacks targeting Mecca, Madinah, and other civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia.
The joint statement emphasized that the security of each country is integral to the collective security of the alliance. The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, signed on August 7, 2026, stipulates that an attack on any signatory will be considered an attack on all. The alliance aims to strengthen deterrence, military readiness, and integration through practical measures.
The Houthi group's maritime ban on Saudi shipping, announced in July, has led to strikes on Saudi tankers and oil facilities. The deployment of forces from Pakistan and Türkiye is intended to address these security threats and ensure rapid response capabilities.
