Pakistan Considers Support Price Hike to Boost Domestic Wheat Production

Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain has acknowledged that importing wheat will be more expensive than producing it domestically.

Speaking at a meeting of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on National Food Security, the minister emphasized the importance of setting an appropriate support price for local farmers to ensure food security and stable production.

Rana Tanveer noted that fixing the wheat support price at Rs. 4,500 per maund would enable farmers to increase production while ensuring an adequate supply of wheat across the country.

The minister also informed the committee that the Prime Minister supports the idea of a wheat support price, underscoring the government's commitment to protecting farmers' interests and maintaining sufficient wheat stocks to meet domestic demand.
