Pakistan Farmers Demand Rs. 5,000 Wheat Support Price Amid Crop Policy Delay

Pakistan Kissan Ittehad President Khalid Khokhar has called on the government to set a wheat support price of Rs. 5,000 per 40 kilograms for farmers. If the government fails to announce its crop policy in time, farmers may skip wheat sowing next season.

Khokhar stated that wheat sowing is approaching, but the government has yet to unveil its crop policy. He said that due to rising production costs and inadequate returns, farmers are struggling to afford balanced fertilizer use, with DAP consumption falling from 2.39 million tonnes to 1.25 million tonnes.

The farmers' leader emphasized that higher crop prices in previous years had contributed to improved yields. He urged the government to give farmers the international market price for wheat and promised record production would follow.
