Pakistan Inflation Hits 8.62% Amid Rising Oil Prices
The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics has released data showing that the country's consumers are facing a tough year due to rising inflation. The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) rose by 8.62% year-on-year for the week ending September 10, with onions and petroleum products being major contributors.
The prices of onions saw a massive increase of 125.52%, followed by LPG at 55.42%, diesel at 45.26%, and petrol at 39.10%. Other items that saw significant price hikes include wheat flour (30.18%), electricity for Q1 (25.24%), chillies powder (16.37%), mutton (15.92%), beef (13.28%), bananas (10.51%), milk fresh (8.12%), and bread plain (8.09%).
However, there were some items that saw a decrease in prices compared to the same period last year, including potatoes (35.21%), chicken (24.30%), sugar (20.88%), eggs (19.95%), tomatoes (17.65%), salt powder (13.96%), pulse gram (13.52%), and pulse masoor (12.26%).
