Pakistan Navigates Hormuz LNG Disruptions with Iranian Help

Pakistan has secured another liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment from Qatar after negotiating with Iran to safely pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The tanker loaded LNG from Qatar's Ras Laffan facility in late June and crossed the strait over the weekend, signaling its expected arrival at Pakistan's import facility by Tuesday.

This is the second Qatari delivery for Pakistan this month, marking a respite from the energy shortfall plaguing the South Asian nation. While LNG shipments through Hormuz remain heavily disrupted, some vessels have managed to get through with Iranian assistance. Pakistan has leveraged its relationship with Iran to receive several cargoes since strikes began in late-February.

Pakistan's ministry of energy didn't comment on the matter, but a successful delivery is preferable for the government to avoid buying expensive shipments from the spot market. The South Asian nation received nearly all of its LNG from Qatar last year, with the emirate hosting the world's largest LNG export plant.
