Pakistan Returns to Spot LNG Market Amid Ongoing Global Supply Disruptions

Pakistan has issued a fresh tender to purchase one spot cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for delivery between September 4 and 8, due to ongoing disruptions in global supply stemming from the Middle East conflict.

The tender comes after Pakistan's electricity generation was hit by delayed LNG cargoes and a shortage of regasified natural gas (RLNG), resulting in a 3,600 MW capacity shortfall. The Power Division expects supply to recover once delayed RLNG cargoes reach port.

This marks a return to the spot market for Pakistan after a rare lull, with no LNG imported from the spot market during August. The country's reliance on the spot market has grown significantly since QatarEnergy declared force majeure in March, cutting into contracted cargoes from Doha.
