Pakistan Secures Second Qatari LNG Cargo Amid Strait of Hormuz Transit Efforts

Pakistan is set to receive its second liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Qatar in September, following a safe transit agreement with Iran. According to Bloomberg sources, the cargo passed through the Strait of Hormuz last weekend and was due to arrive in Pakistan by Tuesday.

This marks the second Qatari LNG cargo Pakistan is set to receive this month, after separate carriers successfully navigated the Persian Gulf earlier this month. The country had previously negotiated directly with Iran on the safe passage of an LNG cargo in May, seeking to secure gas supplies and reduce power outages.

Pakistan's reliance on long-term supplies from Qatar was disrupted by war-related issues, forcing the country to turn to more expensive spot market purchases. This resulted in increased electricity generation costs. However, recent efforts by Persian Gulf exporters have led to an increase in LNG voyages through the Strait of Hormuz, indicating intensified transportation efforts.
