Pakistan Seeks Spot LNG Cargo for September Delivery Amid Energy Requirements
Pakistan has issued a tender to purchase a spot LNG cargo for September delivery as the country seeks to manage its immediate gas and energy requirements.
The government has decided to buy a spot cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL), which has invited international companies to submit bids by Tuesday, with offers scheduled to be opened on the same day.
The state-owned company is seeking delivery of the LNG cargo between September 4 and September 8. The decision to enter the spot LNG market comes as Pakistan faces periodic constraints in gas availability, affecting electricity generation at power plants dependent on gas or imported LNG.
LNG plays a crucial role in Pakistan's energy mix, particularly in meeting demand from the power sector, industries, and other consumers when domestic gas supplies are insufficient. Spot purchases allow buyers to secure LNG for relatively immediate delivery instead of relying solely on long-term supply contracts.
