Pakistan Slashes Fuel Allocations Amid Global Oil Price Surge
Pakistan has implemented drastic measures to conserve fuel amid rising global oil prices. The government ordered a 50% cut in fuel allocations for official vehicles for three months, exempting operational vehicles of essential services and the armed forces.
The austerity drive also includes restrictions on official travel and spending, with officials required to hold meetings via teleconferencing instead of traveling. Foreign visits are banned except for unavoidable events, and ministers will be required to travel economy class.
The measures aim to shield consumers from the impact of rising fuel costs, which have seen petrol prices rise by Rs6.88 to Rs391.22 per liter on Thursday. The government has also approved a targeted fuel subsidy program worth Rs75 billion for lower-income motorists.
