Pakistan Wheat Prices Hit 29-Month High Amid Supply Shortages

Pakistan's national average wheat price reached a 29-month high on August 6, 2026, driven by tightening domestic supplies and shortages in several markets. According to Topline Securities, the sharp increase reflects constrained availability of wheat in the local market.

The sustained rise comes as provincial demand has outpaced available government reserves, prompting authorities to move toward additional imports. The federal government has approved plans to import around 1 million tonnes of wheat to address the supply gap.

The Economic Coordination Committee directed authorities to expedite arrangements for the imports, while existing PASSCO stocks are being released to provinces according to their requirements. However, flour prices are continuing to rise as the government works to finalize the wheat import process.
